November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month, a moment dedicated to raising awareness, improving education, and reinforcing support for people living with lung cancer. It was also the perfect opportunity to introduce the “My Lungs” app — a digital solution designed to place patients at the center of their care journey.
My Lungs is a collaborative initiative led by patient organizations PROLONG VZW and ALK Positive Belgium, with the support of Amgen, Roche Belgium & Luxembourg, The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson, and AstraZeneca. The app was developed by Esperity & Patient Centrics, combining patient insight, scientific rigor, and digital expertise.
The goal of My Lungs is simple yet powerful: to empower people living with lung cancer to take an active role in managing their health. By translating complex medical information into meaningful insights, the app supports patients not only clinically, but also emotionally and practically, throughout their care journey.
With the My Lungs app, patients are supported in several key aspects of their daily lives and treatment pathway:
- 🫁 Learn more about lung cancer through accessible, science-based information tailored to patients
- 🩺 Feel more confident during follow-up consultations by preparing questions and tracking relevant health data
- 🚶 Set and monitor personal health goals to stay engaged and motivated over time
- 📊 Visualise health evolution and better understand changes across the treatment journey
- 👩 Centralise medical contacts so essential information is always up to date and easy to access
- 🤲 Share relevant information with loved ones, helping caregivers and family members feel informed and involved
By combining science-based engagement with patient-centered design, My Lungs provides meaningful and continuous support, empowering patients to feel less alone and more in control of their health decisions.
This initiative would not have been possible without the commitment and collaboration of many individuals. Special thanks to Johan Thibo, Paula Koper, Raf Knockaert, Jo Jansen, Ann Curias, Ina Gesquiere, and Cassandre Lecomte for their invaluable contributions.
